Hyderabad, May 20: The Bathini family will distribute the Fish Prasadam, which people believe cures asthma and respiratory illness, to patients in Hyderabad from 11 am on June 8 to 10 am on June 9. Bathini Amarnath Goud, whose family distributes the Fish Prasadam said that it is given on the day of Mrigasira Karti, which marks the onset of monsoon according to the Hindu calendar.

The 'Fish Prasadam' consists of Murrel fish and herbal paste. "In this regard, we have approached and requested the New Telengana Government to arrange and provide all the necessary amenities and required fingerlings. GHMC, Water Works, Fire, Electricity Police and RTC and other departments to will make their arrangements. As usual Fisheries department would provide the required fish. Apart From the Government of Telangana and respected departments, Badri Vishal Pannalal Pitti Trust, Agarwal seva Dal is always the back bone to us in smooth administration of the fish prasadam every year. They Provide free meals, tiffin, Water, and Butter Milk to all the patients" said Amarnath Goud.

"On that day, We insert a yellow herbal paste (Prasadam) into the mouth of a live fingerling. This live fish is then slipped into the throat of a patient. For vegetarian patients, the family will prepare separate prasadam with jaggery. However, vegetarians need to take the Prasadam for a longer period," Goud said.

"After taking the prasadam, separate prasadam which is given has to be made into pills and should be taken on three occasions for 45 days on Arudra (23 June), Punarvasu (8 July) and Pushyami (23 July). Patients are supposed to follow a strict diet prescribed by the Bathini brothers, otherwise the fish prasadam will not give the desired results," he added.

"After completion of administration at the main venue Exhibition Grounds for remaining patients. we give fish prasadam at our residence," Goud said. (ANI)

Asthma patients from various parts of Telugu states and other places in the country take this prasadam in June every year in the hope of finding relief from respiratory problems.

Hyderabad, May 20: Bathini family will distribute ‘fish prasadam’ to people suffering from asthma and other respiratory ailments here on June 8-9. The family announced on Monday that the annual event will begin at 11 a.m. on June 8 at Exhibitions Grounds, Nampally, and will continue till 11 a.m. on June 9.

Bathini Vishwanatham Goud, president, Bathini Mrigasira Trust, told media persons that they are making all arrangements for the distribution of fish prasadam. Believed to Cure Asthma, Fish Prasadam to Be Given in Hyderabad on June 8.

Asthma patients from various parts of Telugu states and other places in the country take this prasadam in June every year in the hope of finding relief from respiratory problems.

The family requested concerned government departments to make arrangements like every year for the smooth conduct of the event.

This will be the first event after the death of the head of the family, Bathini Harinath Goud. He passed away at the age of 84 in June last year, following prolonged illness.

He was the last of the fourth-generation Gouds distributing free fish medicine to asthma patients from across the country.

Harinath Goud was instrumental in organising the event for the last three decades after the demise of his elder brothers.

The Bathini Goud family claims to have been distributing this medicine free of cost for the last 178 years. The secret formula for the herbal medicine was given to their ancestor in 1845 by a saint after he took an oath that it would be administered free of cost.

Members of the Bathini Goud family administer the ‘wonder drug’ on ‘Mrigasira Karti’, (during the first week of June) which heralds the onset of the monsoon.

A yellow colour herbal paste prepared by the family is placed in the mouth of a live ‘murrel’ fingerling, which is then slipped through the throat of the patient. It is believed to provide much-needed relief if taken for three consecutive years. For vegetarians, the family gives medicine with jaggery.

Asthma patients from various parts of the country flock to Hyderabad to take this treatment. However, the medicine lost its popularity during the last 15 years due to controversies pertaining to the contents of herbal paste.

Some groups working to inculcate scientific temper among people, termed the fish medicine a fraud. They also approached the court, claiming that since the herbal paste contains heavy metals, it can cause serious health problems.

However, Goud family claims that the tests in laboratories conducted as per court orders revealed that the herbal paste is safe.

After the challenge by the rationalists, the family started calling it ‘fish prasadam’.

Despite the controversies, people continue to throng the venue every year in hope of finding some relief to their nagging respiratory problems. However, the numbers have dwindled over the years.

అయితే.. చేప ప్రసాదం పంపిణీ ప్రారంభమైన కొద్ది సేపటికే తీవ్ర విషాదం జరిగింది. చేప ప్రసాదం కోసం జనాలు భారీ ఎత్తున రావటంతో క్యూలైన్‌లలో తోపులాట, తొక్కిసలాట జరిగింది. ఈ క్రమంలో.. నిజామాబాద్ జిల్లా సిరికొండ గ్రామానికి చెందిన రాజన్న.. స్పృహ తప్పి పడిపోయాడు. గమనించిన వాలంటీర్లు.. అతన్ని వెంటనే కేర్ ఆసుపత్రికి తరలించారు. ఆస్పత్రిలో చికిత్స పొందుతూ రాజన్న చనిపోయాడు.

చేప ప్రసాద పంపిణీకి 32 కౌంటర్లు ఏర్పాటు చేసినప్పటికి రద్దీ హెవీగానే ఉంది. మరోవైపు ఎలాంటి ఇబ్బందులు తలెత్తకుండా పోలీసులు భారీ బందోబస్తు ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. చేప ప్రసాదం తీసుకోవటం వల్ల ఆస్తమా వంటి శ్వాస సంబంధిత వ్యాధుల నుంచి స్వాంతన దొరుకుతుందని ప్రజల నమ్మకం. ‘మృగశిర కార్తె’ ప్రారంభం రోజున బత్తిని కుటుంబ సభ్యులు ఈ ప్రసాదాన్ని ప్రతి ఏటా ఉచితంగా పంపిణీ చేస్తుంటారు. గత 178 సంవత్సరాలుగా ఈ తంతు కొనసాగుతుంది. ఈ చేప మందుకు రహస్య సూత్రాన్ని 1845లో ఒక సాధువు తమ పూర్వీకులకు తెలియజేసినట్లు బత్తిని కుటుంబ సభ్యులు చెబుతూ ఉంటారు.
