TD Wants CEC to Prevent Bonda Uma’s Arrest

In a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner on Wednesday, TD politburo member Varla Ramaiah maintained that the Andhra Pradesh police are under pressure from the ruling YSR Congress party to foist a false case against Bonda Uma, so that the YSRC nominee from Vijayawada Central could win the election. Vijayawada: Telugu Desam has sought the intervention of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in preventing the arrest of TDP candidate from Vijayawada Central assembly constituency Bonda Umamaheswara Rao.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner on Wednesday, TD politburo member Varla Ramaiah maintained that the Andhra Pradesh police are under pressure from the ruling YSR Congress party to foist a false case against Bonda Uma, so that the YSRC nominee from Vijayawada Central could win the election.

Ramaiah maintained that the TDP candidate is not at all involved in the stone pelting incident on Jagan Mohan Reddy. He alleged that the Vijayawada commissioner of police is trying to implicate Bonda Umamaheswara Rao in the case. The TD politburo demanded that the ECI immediately shift the police commissioner from his post.

Jagan stone pelting case: TDP object to police naming its candidate

The TDP general secretary alleged that the Vijayawada police were scheming to implicate Uma Maheshwar Rao in the stone pelting case only to cover up their failure

The main opposition in Andhra Pradesh —Telugu Desam Party — on Wednesday expressed apprehensions over the attempts of Vijayawada police to “implicate” senior TDP leader and former MLA Bonda Uma Maheshwar Rao in the case pertaining to stone pelting at YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday night.

In a letter addressed to chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar, TDP general secretary and politburo member Varla Ramaiah alleged that the Vijayawada police, “under pressure from the ruling YSRCP, were planning to foist a case against Uma Maheshwara Rao”, who is contesting the next month’s elections to the state assembly from Vijayawada (central) constituency.

Ramaiah said that the TDP candidate was in “no way connected” to the stone pelting incident; yet, there were reports in the media about his possible arrest in connection with the case, before the issuance of election notification on Thursday, so as to prevent him from filing his nomination.

“In fact, family members of one of the suspects in the case who were picked up by the police for questioning told the reporters openly that he might have pelted the stone after being denied payment for attending the chief minister’s rally, as promised earlier,” he said.

The TDP general secretary alleged that the Vijayawada police were scheming to implicate Uma Maheshwar Rao in the stone pelting case only to cover up their failure in providing adequate security to the chief minister.

“This incident is an unprecedented abuse of power by police and negation of ECI assured ‘level playing field’ to all the political parties,” he said.

Ramaiah appealed to the Election Commission to intervene and direct the police not to foist false cases and resort to arrest of the TDP candidate just before the date of election notification.

Meanwhile, Uma Maheshwar Rao told reporters that the police had picked up a party activist Vemula Durga Rao from Vaddera Basti in the Ajit Singh Nagar, where the stone pelting at the chief minister had taken place. “The police are bringing pressure on Durga Rao to admit that I had masterminded the attack,” he alleged.

Stating that he was no way concerned with the incident, the TDP leader said he was ready to face a CBI inquiry into the incident, if ordered. “It is very clear that the YSRCP was trying to gain sympathy by enacting a high drama over the stone pelting incident,” he said.

The Vijayawada police, who were supposed to hold a press conference in the evening to produce the accused and disclose the investigation details, did not do so till late in the night.

Police crack case of attack on YS Jagan, key accused, TDP social media head arrested, Bonda goes underground

Meanwhile, Vijayawada Central TDP leader Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao whose hand was suspected in the case said to have gone underground fearing imminent arrest by the SIT.

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Police have cracked the murder attempt case on YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and took into custody the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) social media head and an unknown number of the accused for questioning. Meanwhile, Vijayawada Central TDP leader Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao whose hand was suspected in the case said to have gone underground fearing imminent arrest by the SIT.

While the SIT would soon be coming up with a detailed statement on the way the TDP leaders planned the stone attack on the Chief Minister while he was on his ‘Mementha Siddham’ Bus Yatra in Vijayawada, the SIT also determined the real attacker that threw the stone. During interrogation, the Police also concluded the support that the accused had in completing the task.

Police also prepared a watertight case with the help of scientific evidence, call data, video footage, and other vital pieces of evidence. The SIT interrogated more than 60 persons and investigated the case from all angles. During the investigation, the police realised that the TDP social media in-charge and a local TDP leader had played an important role in the attack. While the TDP social media in-charge was arrested the other leader had gone incommunicado.

Meanwhile, TDP politburo member Bonda Umamaheswara Rao in an interview with a Telugu news channel has said that he had nothing to do with the attack on YS Jagan. “It seems that the YSRCP is trying to falsely implicate me in the case. They are forcing the accused to take my name. They have picked some boys from the Vaddera colony in Ajith Singh Nagar and are torturing them to take my name,” he said. Demanding an inquiry by the CBI, Umamaheswara Rao said that the police earlier also tried to implicate TDP leaders in the murder case of YS Vivekananda Reddy and Kodi Kathi case in Vizag.
