A few leaders, who included former MLAs, joined the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in the presence of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy during the ‘Memantha Siddham’ bus yatra at Gantavaripalem in Palnadu district on Wednesday.

JSP leader and former MLA from P. Gannavaram Pamula Rajeswari Devi, TDP leader and former MLA from Rayachoti R. Ramesh Kumar Reddy, and JSP leader Pothina Mahesh joined the ruling party.

Later, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy started his bus yatra from Gantavaripalem. A huge crowd greeted him at Santamagulur junction. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy interacted with the villagers at Vellalacheruvu before moving on to Rompicherla and Santagudipadu.

Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy thanked people for coming out to support him. “Are you Siddham (ready) for a war against the evil, conspiracies and deceit? This is not just an election to choose MLAs and MPs. It is an election that decides whether the assurances given to the farmers, empowerment of women, and education of children will continue or be engulfed in darkness,” he said.

“Your future is in your hands. So make an informed decision,” he added.

Criticising TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu, he said, “Do you know how lies are being propagated by certain media houses? They are joining hands with Mr. Naidu. They are collectively trying to portray a donkey as a horse. This is the politics of conspiracy and lies.”

“They claim that if you vote for Mr. Naidu, you will get a job. Can Mr. Naidu explain how many were given government job during his entire tenure?” he asked.

Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the YSRCP government had given jobs to 1,30,000 people in the village and ward secretariats. “If you visit a government hospital, you will notice how we have filled 54,000 posts in the health sector,” he added.

In all, 2,31,000 people got jobs in the last five years as against only 32,000 during the term of Mr. Naidu, he said.

“In this scenario, do you want the ‘fan’ (symbol of YSRCP) or the rusty ‘bicycle’ (symbol of TDP) to win?” he asked.

పల్నాడు జిల్లా పిడుగురాళ్లలో సీఎం జగన్ ఈ సాయంత్రం మేమంతా సిద్ధం సభకు హాజరయ్యారు. ఈ సందర్భంగా ఆయన ప్రసంగిస్తూ, యువతకు ఉద్యోగాల అంశాన్ని ప్రస్తావించారు. తాను అధికారంలోకి వచ్చాక 2.31 లక్షల ఉద్యోగాలు భర్తీ చేశానని వెల్లడించారు. గతంలో చంద్రబాబు ఇచ్చింది 32 వేల ఉద్యోగాలేనని విమర్శించారు. మీ బిడ్డ భర్తీ చేసిన 2 లక్షల 31 వేల ఉద్యోగాలు ఎక్కడ, చంద్రబాబు ఇచ్చిన 32 వేల ఉద్యోగాలు ఎక్కడ? అని సీఎం జగన్ వ్యాఖ్యానించారు. మరి జాబు రావాలి అంటే అధికారంలోకి రావాల్సింది ఎవరు? అని ప్రశ్నించారు.

ఈ ఎన్నికలు జగన్ కు, చంద్రబాబు కు మధ్య జరిగే ఎన్నికలు కావని, ప్రజలకు, చంద్రబాబు మోసాలకు మధ్య జరిగే ఎన్నికలు అని స్పష్టం చేశారు. చంద్రబాబుకు ఓటేస్తే ప్రభుత్వ పథకాలన్నీ ఆగిపోతాయని అన్నారు. ఎల్లో మీడియా గాడిదను తీసుకువచ్చి గుర్రం అని ప్రచారం చేస్తాయని సీఎం జగన్ విమర్శించారు. తాము సిద్ధం సిద్ధం అంటుంటే వారికి యుద్ధం అని ప్రతిధ్వనిస్తోందని అన్నారు. 

జిత్తులమారి చంద్రబాబు కుట్రలను మరోసారి తిప్పికొట్టాలని పిలుపునిచ్చారు. చంద్రబాబుకు ఓటేస్తే పేదలు మోసపోవడం తథ్యమని, ఎన్నికలకు ముందు గంగలా ఉండే చంద్రబాబు, ఎన్నికలు అయిపోయాక చంద్రముఖిలా మారిపోతారని వ్యంగ్యం ప్రదర్శించారు. 

వైసీపీ ఎప్పుడూ పేదల పార్టీయేనని, ఇప్పుడు జరుగుతున్న సంక్షేమం కొనసాగాలంటే మీ బిడ్డ జగన్ కు ఓటేసి గెలిపించుకోవాలని పిలుపునిచ్చారు.

Andhra Pradesh | On a knife-edge

YSRCP chief Jagan Reddy and his TDP counterpart Chandrababu Naidu are locked in a keen contest. The latter's NDA alliance also stands in the way of the Andhra CM's dreams of a second term in power in twin polls

On march 16, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy paid homage at the memorial of his father and former CM Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on the family estate at Idupulupaya in Kadapa district before going on to announce the names of party contestants for the 175 assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Just hours later, though, his Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) came in for a rude shock as the Election Commission (EC) announced that the state would go to the polls only in the fourth phase, and not the first, as had been the case in the past four elections. Any hope of running a short, sustained campaign leading to a triumphant election in April was shattered.

That the voting will now be on May 13 at the peak of summer is a worry, not just for the YSRCP but also for all the parties in the fray. A drop in the voter turnout could make for an unpredictable result, especially in a tight fight where the YSRCP is taking on the rival Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led alliance consisting of the BJP and actor Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena, and also the Congress-Left combine. The latter, now led by Jagan’s sister Y.S. Sharmila in the state, are on a revival path but the jury is still out on whether the Andhra voters have forgiven the Grand Old Party for carving out Telangana—and their heart, Hyderabad—out of it.

Jagan has opted for a nuanced poll strategy, not hitting the road before announcing the names of his party candidates (which he kept shuffling until the last, based on internal surveys and opinion poll results). He did address four massive ‘Siddham (Ready)’ rallies beforehand, though, in each region of the state. Starting with Bheemili in Visakhapatnam on January 27, the venues were designed differently, with elevated ramps leading to the centre where Jagan stood and spoke. As he walked the ramp, frenzied followers went into overdrive taking selfies with the CM. Having created the initial momentum, Jagan is now following it up with ‘Memantha Siddham (We are all ready)’, a 21-day bus tour of all the districts, with multiple meetings, whistle-stops and a rally at the end of each day. The YSRCP campaign narrative presents Jagan as the lone hero, “Arjuna not Abhimanyu” (in his own words), fighting it out against the ‘Opposition villains’, who have “ganged up against him and the people”.

On the other side of the road, TDP chief N. Cha­nd­rababu Naidu is on a similar statewide ‘Praja Galam (Voice of the people)’ bus yatra, which, incidentally, was also flagged off on the same day—March 27. Since his 52-day incarceration in September-October 2023 in the skill development scam case, the 73-year-old Naidu has been all fire and brimstone, calling out Jagan’s “misrule” and listing the financial scandals he’s embroiled in in the courts (the YSRCP leader, too, had spent 16 months in jail in 2013-14, but had come out the stronger for it).

Naidu is hoping the combined force of his alliance will be enough to edge out the YSRCP, like it did in 2014. Analysts point out that both sides are formidable, commanding vote shares of 45 per cent and above in elections since 2014. The NDA challenge is to ensure that the worm keeps inching up this time around.

The TDP has kept the lion’s share (17) of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state, conceding just six to the BJP and two to the JSP. In the 175-seat assembly, it is contesting in an overwhelming 144, with the JSP allotted 21 and the BJP 10. The TDP is also fielding several ‘resourceful’ candidates, including turncoats from the YSRCP and Congress, and will be hoping for a sustained campaign from them.

Jagan and Naidu represent two of the dominant castes in the state, and also hail from the same Rayalaseema region. The Reddys and Kammas make up just eight and five per cent of the population, respectively, but have much higher representation in the assembly compared to the numerically larger Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The Kapus, a forward caste of farmers, who also have strength in numbers, and the OBC cohorts have been pushing for reservations and a larger share of seats for some time now.

Jagan is calling the elections “a class war” and is betting on the slew of welfare schemes that he has launched for the disadvantaged to take him past the finish line. The 38 schemes have reached some 125 million beneficiaries (many of them for multiple schemes), and involved an investment of over Rs 4.2 lakh crore over four years (till January 2024). What differentiated it from other states was the elaborate Gram Sachivalayam and Ward Sachivalayam (GSWS) network that was set up for this. The GSWS volunteers did yeoman work during the Covid-19 containment phase and after in the doorstep delivery of welfare scheme benefits. The ‘welfare calendar’ with fixed timelines for delivery of services and transparent transfer of benefits (mostly online) have also endeared the YSRCP chief to the state’s marginalised sections.

Naidu has struggled to find fault with Jagan on this, though he has ensured that the Election Commission barred the 266,000 GSWS volunteers from the election process. With Jagan assuring his “young army” that they will be reappointed “in the first file after re-election”, many of them have now resigned and are officially working for the YSRCP. This is a setback for the TDP alliance as the volunteers have circumvented the EC fiat.

The TDP is targeting the ruling party on other governance aspects, though. “Remember, the YSRCP is a one-man show,” says B.V. Muralidhar, head of the department of political science at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. “Its influence has declined since 2019 owing to anti-incumbency. The NDA coalition has been targeting it on issues like corruption, the sand and land mafia, incidents of atrocities against SCs/STs, lack of capital investments and for reneging on its promises to government employees.” Jagan’s plan of having three capitals for the administration, legislature and judiciary at Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Kurnool, respectively, has also come in for flak, and is still awaiting judicial clearance.

However, on the vexatious issue of getting special category status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh after the 2014 reorganisation, the TDP and its NDA allies are silent. The BJP is against granting it, apprehensive that it’ll raise similar claims in other parts of the country. The YSRCP is also avoiding the issue as it will need a working relationship with the BJP if each side finds itself in power post-polls in Andhra and New Delhi.

While the NDA is working on a common manifesto, the TDP has promised “a new vision for Andhra Pradesh with Super Six guarantees”. Naidu’s son and TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh says it includes creating 2 million jobs for the youth and an unemployment allowance of Rs 3,000 a month until they secure one. “The Thalliki Vandanam scheme will provide Rs 15,000 a year to every schoolgoing child while farmers will get Rs 20,000 under the Annadata scheme,” he promises.

But there are other challenges. Inter-party coordination is still an ask with some sections of the BJP opposing the alliance with the TDP. “Campaign coordination and transfer of votes among allies are serious issues for the NDA, besides the SCS. The same alliance was in play in 2014 but they had broken up in 2018 over the BJP vetoing the SCS,” says E. Venkatesu of the department of political science at University of Hyderabad. “If there is no clarity on these issues, the NDA will come under enormous pressure.”

Social commentator D. Subramanyam Reddy describes the election battle in Andhra “as a vote to decide whether people want pragmatic grassroots governance (Jagan) or political ad hoc administration (Naidu)”. The latter, the longest serving chief minister of Andhra Pradesh (including the original and truncated versions), may not agree to the characterization. In an emotional appeal to his Telugu biddas, Naidu has already announced that this will be his last election. Whether they heed his call remains to be seen. As for Jagan, his YSRCP is the team to beat this election. What is sure is that as the mercury rises, so will the acrimony on both sides.

It was an attack by some deeply brainwashed, deranged and ungrateful pulka (who got benefited from Jagans welfare schemes!!) and not staged or preplanned by any party (not even TDP). But sometimes even our enemies do us a favor which is what happened here and you can see the public reactions condemning the attack which means more votes to YCP and driving TDP into the ground.

If CBN loses in this election (which he will) getting only 2 seats, it is the end of TDP, CBN, Lokesh, Pawan, Janasena... as there is no one in his family or party to resurrect it and CBN would be called "Katakataala Chandranna" forever.

Lokesh is worse and incompetent than his dad that he cannot even save the TDP when his dad retires in prison (which is why CBN recruited Pawala out of inconfidence in his own son), we can only imagine how much worse Pappu's son would be 🤣 CBN could not even help Pappu win in any election so far even when CBN was in power!

Attack On CM Jagan: Vijayawada Police Registers Attempt To Murder Case

Vijayawada: Vijayawada police on Sunday registered a case of attempt to murder against unknown persons in connection with last night’s attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy while he was campaigning in the district.

A case under the Indian Penal Code’s Section 307 was registered at AS Nagar Police Station on a complaint by YSR Congress Party MLA Velampalli Srinivasa Rao.

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief sustained an injury on his left eyebrow after being hit by a stone in the Ajit Singh Nagar area. Doctors immediately provided first aid to him.

The Chief Minister, who is currently on his “Memantha Siddham Yatra”, was standing on the special campaign bus to greet people when he was attacked. Srinivasa Rao, the Vijayawada West MLA, who was standing next to Jagan Mohan Reddy, also sustained an injury in his left eye.

Following doctors’ advice, Jagan Mohan Reddy was taken to the Vijayawada Government Hospital.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the attack took place near Vivekananda School around 8.30 p.m. Police took up the investigation into the incident, which has triggered a war of words between leaders of the YSRCP and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Srinivas Rao said when lakhs of people were gathering in support of Jagan Mohan Reddy, some miscreants saw an opportunity and deliberately attacked him. The power supply was cut off at that time, and they seized the opportunity to carry out the attack.

He alleged that TDP President N. Chandrababu Naidu is unable to tolerate the overwhelming support for Jagan Mohan Reddy, which is why he and his associates resorted to such cheap tricks. This behaviour is completely unjustified, and it is distressing to witness the Chief Minister being attacked in this manner, he said adding that Naidu should be held accountable.

“Despite the overwhelming support for CM Jagan in both the east and central constituencies of Vijayawada, alliances have been formed against him. There have been malicious attempts, joining hands with the Congress and the Communist party,” the MLA alleged. He claimed that 10 surveys have been conducted, all of which clearly indicate that the YSRCP will sweep the 2024 polls.

Speedy recovery wishes pour in for A.P. Chief Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wishes speedy recovery to Jagan; Stalin, Mamata Banerjee, Chandrababu Naidu, K.T. Rama Rao and Sharmila condemn the stone-pelting incident

Messages wishing a speedy recovery to Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy poured in from various quarters on Apil 14 (Sunday). Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy was injured in a stone-pelting incident during his ‘Memantha Siddham’ bus yatra in Vijayawada on Saturday evening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.  Stalin, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K.T. Rama Rao, APPCC president Y.S. Sharmila and others prayed for the speedy recovery of Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Mr. Modi posted to social media platform ‘X’ late on Saturday night that he prayed for the speedy recovery and good health of Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy.  

Condemning the stone-pelting incident, Mr. Stalin said that political differences should never escalate to violence. “Let’s uphold civility and mutual respect as we engage in the democratic process. Wishing him a quick recovery,” he posted on ‘X’. 

Ms. Mamata Banerjee said, “I am shocked to hear about the attack on Jagan ji. Praying for his speedy recovery.”

Mr. Naidu also condemned the incident. In a post on ‘X’, he urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to initiate an impartial and unbiased inquiry into the incident and punish those responsible for it.

Mr. Taraka Rama Rao said violence has no place in democracy.  “Glad you are safe. Take care Jagan Anna. Strongly condemn the attack on AP (Andhra Pradesh) Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. Violence has no place in democracy and I hope strict preventive measures are put in place by ECI,” he posted on ‘X’.

Ms. Sharmila termed the incident as “very unfortunate”. “We believe this incident was accidental. But if someone purposefully carried out this attack, then everyone should condemn it. There shouldn’t be any scope for violence in a democracy. I pray for the speedy recovery of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy,” she said.

Jagan enacted stone-pelting drama to gain sympathy in elections, allege TDP leaders

They question why there was no power in the area in which the Chief Minister was touring

Members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) from Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli on Sunday refuted claims of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on the involvement of the TDP in the stone-pelting incident on Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at Vijayawada. The TDP leaders allege that the incident was a drama enacted by the YSRCP to gain public sympathy ahead of the elections.

Rajya Sabha member and Anakapalli Lok Sabha candidate C.M. Ramesh said that people were laughing at dramas of Mr. Jagan. He wondered how the attack could have occurred despite Intelligence officials and presence of thousands of police personnel at the venue. Mr. Ramesh also questioned why there was no power supply when the Chief Minister was touring in the area. He alleged that the YSRCP leaders were indulging in cheap politics and people were watching closely. He also said that instead of coming up with such drama, it was better if Mr. Jagan resigned.

TDP mahila wing president and MLA candidate from Payakaraopeta V. Anitha said that people would not believe dramas of Mr. Jagan any more. She said that during 2018, Mr. Jagan had enacted the ‘Kodi Kathi’ drama and now he had come up with a stone-pelting incident, she said.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, she said, “Mr Jagan does not come out without barricades. There is no electricity in that area when the CM was touring, but still he was on the bus. The TV channel belonging to Mr. Jagan has stopped live when the incident happened. Within minutes of attack, the YSRCP leaders have come out with placards, as if they were aware of the attack. Mr Jagan trying to foolpeople.”

Speaking to the local media, former Minister and TDP MLA candidate from Narsipatnam Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu said “If Mr. Jagan has really done good for the people, there is no need to create all this drama. The CM has failed to fulfil his promises. With no public response to his programmes, he has understood that he would lose and started a stone-pelting drama to gain sympathy.”

Former MLA & TDP Parliament constituency president Visakhapatnam, Gandi Babjee said that fear of losing in the coming elections has led Mr. Jagan to start another drama similar to Kodi Kathi in the year 2018.

      Ingredients:
      1 cup Basmati rice 2 cups water 2 tablespoons ghee or oil 1 onion, thinly sliced 2-3 green chilies, slit lengthwise 1-inch piece of ginger, finely chopped 2-3 cloves garlic, minced 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste) 1 teaspoon garam masala powder 1/2 tablespoon Shah Jeera seeds (REQUIRED) 1/2 tablespoon black pepper 5 cloves 5 green cardamom pods 1 black cardamom 1 cinnamon stick Salt to taste Chopped coriander leaves for garnish (REQUIRED) Chopped mint leaves for garnish (REQUIRED) Fried onions for garnish (optional) NOTE: If the ingredients marked as REQUIRED above are not available, make Bagara Rice some other time when they are available. Add the drained rice to the pan and gently stir to coat the rice with the spices. Pour water into the pan and add salt according to your taste. Stir gently. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pan with a lid and let the rice cook for about 15-20 minutes or until the rice is fully cooked and the water is absorbed. If using a pressure cooker, cook for 1 whistle on medium heat. Once the rice is cooked, remove the pan from the heat and let it sit covered for a few minutes. Fluff the rice gently with a fork.       Ingredients:
      For Marination:
      500g fish fillets (such as tilapia, cod, or any firm white fish) 1 cup plain yogurt 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste 1 teaspoon red chili powder 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder 1 teaspoon garam masala powder 1 teaspoon coriander powder Salt to taste For Rice:
      2 cups basmati rice, washed and soaked for 30 minutes 4 cups water 2-3 green cardamom pods 2-3 cloves 1-inch cinnamon stick Salt to taste For Biryani:
      2 onions, thinly sliced 2 tomatoes, chopped 2-3 green chilies, slit 1/2 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves (cilantro) 1/2 cup chopped fresh mint leaves 3 tablespoons ghee or oil 1 teaspoon cumin seeds A pinch of saffron strands (optional) 2 tablespoons warm milk (if using saffron) Fried onions for garnish (optional) Instructions:

Repeat the layers until all the rice and fish are used up, ending with a layer of rice on top. Sprinkle the reserved fried onions on top.
